I’m a Cambridge qualified English teacher who believes in combining multi-sensory and communicative approaches to learning in order to obtain the best possible result.
Many kids and adults alike have had to adapt quickly to the concept of blended learning where technology has taken a front sit, and teachers had to quickly come up with creative and engaging videos, presentations and interactive quizzes that provide real time feedback.
So in my classes we touch grammar using building blocks and sentence cards, visualize spelling and learn reading strategies and inferencing techniques by breaking things down and putting them back together. We practice vocabulary and listening skills through songs, videos and podcasts. We practice writing by creating comics and learning about paragraphs and essay structure using tools like “Write to Improve” which provide instant feedback.
We create crafts and build models and and talk about climate change and rebranding.
As you can see, I take great care when it comes to planning, versatility and catering to my students’ needs and goals.
Furthermore, as a professional who strives to constantly better myself and expand my toolbox I have been following various professional development courses during this lockdown: Cambridge “Teaching English Online”, “Dyslexia and Foreign Language Teaching” from the Lancaster University and “Blended Leaning Essentials” program by the University of Leeds.
In conclusion, and perhaps most importantly, I love teaching, because it helps me connect with my students and get to know them as people.
