Andrew Hiyama

I'm a graduate of the University of Michigan with a degree in public policy and Spanish. I recently earned a certification with distinction in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, and have been teaching at a bilingual primary school in the Community of Madrid since the beginning of October. While in the United States, I gave private lessons to adults learning English. Beyond being a native speaker of English, I have extensive experience writing and speaking the language at a professional level, as a reporter and editor for both a newspaper and a magazine in the United States. As a teacher, I'm very patient and understanding, but above all I'm adaptable and open to using whichever method best suits the learner. I'm completely comfortable with everything from the most casual conversational methods of learning to the most structured.

Soy graduado de la Universidad de Michigan con título en la política pública y el español. Me gané recientemente el certificado con distinción en la enseñanza de inglés como lengua extranjera, y he enseñado en un colegio en la Comunidad de Madrid desde el principio de octubre. En los Estados Unidos, daba clases particulares a los adultos aprendiendo inglés. Más que ser hablante nativo del inglés, tengo experiencia amplia escribiendo y hablando la lengua en nivel profesional, como periodista y editor para un periódico y una revista en los EE.UU. Como profesor, soy muy paciente y comprensivo, pero más que nada soy adaptable y dispuesto a utilizar cualquier método le queda mejor al alumno. Estoy completamente cómodo con todo desde los métodos más coloquiales hasta los más estructurados.
