Dear Sir/Madam,
I would like to express my keen interest in a teaching English role with your establishment.
I speak native English and I come from Scotland in the United Kingdom. I have recently
obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Strathclyde University, where I
received a 2:1. I then went on to complete a COSCA (Counselling & Psychotherapy in
Scotland) accredited certificate in Counselling Skills at Glasgow University. Additionally, I
studied Education as part of my undergraduate degree for two years. I have also
completed a TEFL and have experience working as an online English teacher.
I am passionate about this line of work because I enjoy a job that entails me to work with
others in a learning environment. I believe that my academic background in Psychology
and Education will benefit me in teaching English. My interpersonal skills have immensely
grown through studying, previous job roles and from travelling solo. During my
undergraduate degree I taught in Primary School as part of work placement. I also have
experience counselling others which I think will benefit me when teaching as the role of a
counsellor and teacher have similarities; both roles are responsible for creating an
environment that provides optimal growth and learning. It is necessary to show positive
encouragement, empathy, non judgement and create a good relationship with whom you
are working with. Further experience that will benefit me is that I have worked for 4 years
in a nursery school. I am familiar with creating activities and learning experiences that
prepare children in beginning primary school. Furthermore I have experience teaching
English online to Chinese students with iTutor.
I hope to have the opportunity to join the team. I have studied in Jinan, China and found
that I was able to integrate into even the most opposite culture and connect with the
teachers and students that I shared my experience with. I have worked abroad in New
York, Cyprus and Barcelona. This portrays that I am adaptable and able to communicate
with a wide range of backgrounds and cultures. I believe that my previous experiences
support me in a role as an English teacher.
Thank you in advance for your time in reading my application.
Warm regards,
Anna McLaughlin
