To start with, I believe that the number one rule in learning a new language is to have confidence in yourself. Why do I say this? Because when you’ll speak to someone in that language, even if it’s not spoken that well, you’ll give the other person the interpretation that you have confidence into what you’re trying to communicate. I make sure to make my English classes dynamic by doing things like watching Ted talk videos and debating about it, playing games (ex: tutti frutti, hangman, or online games from websites like “kahoot” or “quizlet”), sing songs, write about an interesting topic, etc. I make sure to give my students homework at the end of every class. Also, every 2 weeks I give a quiz to evaluate if my students understood what I have been teaching.
I realized that my teaching methods of making the classes very dynamic has bettered my students learning, and helped them gain confidence.
After two years of teaching Native English to students from all over the world, I mainly learned that it is important to have a good relationship with your students, to give feedback to the student’s parents every 2 weeks on how their kids are doing, and that not all students learn the same way. I could go on and on about what teaching have taught me, but the point here is that my goal is to make sure my students feel comfortable in the classes, comprehend what I teach them, gain confidence in themselves when speaking the language, and overall enjoy what they are learning. I believe that the best way to learn is by enjoying what you’re being taught.
