I firmly believe that the best method of teaching is by communicating entirely in the targeted language. Once the brain is used to expressing thoughts and feelings freely, the grammatical side comes rather naturally after exercises on sheets and memorization.
Reading multiple texts aids with the pronunciation and the vocabulary is enriched, and writing essays creates a sense of confidence in using the language.
