Hi there! Please call me Shandy. Let me tell you a bit about myself.
I have been teaching since I was in university as a means of funding my expenses as a student. I tutored middle and secondary school students to guide them in their mathematics and science learning and gain self-confidence and improve their performance in class, as well as helping graduating students pass the college entrance examinations.
Later on, I worked as an online EFL teacher for GoFluent, a company that caters to European businesses like Sanofi Aventis, Schneider Electronics, Accor Hotels, and other companies. There, I taught English through conversations and created materials that are specific to the needs of my students.
After four years, I moved to Vietnam and worked for Language Link, where I taught EFL to students of all ages, including academic writing and IELTS preparation. On the side, I worked as a freelance tutor, where I taught mostly mathematics and science to international school students, mostly MYP and IB DP.
In my next place of work, I developed a STEAM curriculum, integrating subject content with English language learning, as well as tutored several students who are preparing to take the SAT, SSAT, and ACT.
Finally, I worked as a secondary mathematics teacher at a bilingual school where students have varying English language proficiency.
As a teacher, I strive to make learning fun and accessible. I make sure that all basic concepts are easily understood by the student through the use of real life examples within the student's interests. For example, I have used music, comic books, and video games as a means of illustrating mathematical concepts. For the teaching of English, I integrate interesting projects and writing activities to engage my students.
