Michael Garrett

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Michael and I live on the beautiful island of Mallorca. I have lived here for ten years now after deciding to leave my home city of Portsmouth. I am sure you will find out a lot more about me as we continue our classes.

I can teach a wide range of ages and levels from Beginner to Advanced, from young teenagers to mature adults. Using a wide range of materials that I have access to, we would use not only commercial publications but also make use of social media websites such as YouTube. I would describe myself as a facilitator as I enable you, the student, to find out the answer for yourself, but I can also be direct if necessary.

Lev Vyotsky is my inspiration as he advocates a scaffolding approach to teaching whereby support is given that is at the learner's level plus one. The support provided helps the learner attain a higher level.

Generally, I set up an activity for the student to complete and then get feedback. If there are problems, we review the material again, if the student has completed the task successfully, we move on to another activity.

Students that I have taught have a wide range of interest ranging from sport, to film, books, history and architecture. Naturally enough, I would include yours in the program of learning.
