My aims are to ensure my students are able to demonstrate the learning outcomes, and more importantly to develop their English language skills to succeed and thrive. My role is to enable my students in their learning.

My aims are to ensure my students are able to demonstrate the learning outcomes, and more importantly to develop their English language skills to succeed and thrive. My role is to enable my students in their learning.
The keys to my approach are drawn from competency based learning, which in turn reflects the application of English by the student outside of the classroom:
* Motivation - to acknowledge what is driving the student to learn and improve their English, and to engage with them at this level. For example, for a student who wishes to advance to C2 for work, prompt them to join relevant professional groups, attend and speak at events * Context - to link to how the student will use English and make use of activities that mirror this. For example, employing work based scenarios rather than teaching grammar rules in isolation * Challenge - to prompt the student to take ownership of their learning. For example, using problem solving activities so the student becomes self-reliant, as opposed to simply presenting content. Activities such as debates and forums are beneficial because the student needs to participate fully, connecting speaking and writing so they can master English fully * Feedback - to provide regular and relevant feedback to the student. For example, using tailored assessments throughout the course and debriefing with the student, avoiding relying on final examinations.
I believe that learning a language is an ongoing process, so what I do in the classroom is to provide my students with the tools they can use to begin, and a framework to continue. Building a relationship with students is critical; I am friendly, professional, patient and empathetic.
